Salt intake and hypertension.

The  recommended  dietary  salt  intake  as  by  WHO  is   5-6 g/day which  will  have  major beneficial effect on cardiovascular health along  with  kidney  function.
Too much  salt  intake  increases  the  electrolytes  in  the  blood  ,  which  consequently  increases  water  retention  by  the  kidney.
This  eventually  leads  to  increased  blood  pressure  and  hypertension,  a  fatal   condition  which  if  not  treated  leads  to  cardiovascular  malfunction  (heart  failure) and  death.

Some ways  to reduce  too  much  salt  intake  include;

  1. Do  not  add  salt  while  cooking, these  include  stock  cubes  and  granules.
  2. Use  spices and herbs,ginger,lemon and  other  flavours  that  do not  have  salt.
  3. Bread  and  breakfast  cereals  can  at  times  contain  too  much  salt, checkfirst  before  buying.
  4. Do  not  take  too  much  smoked  foods  especially meat and  fish, limlit  your  intake.
