WOMENS HEALTH. DISORDERS RELATED TO THE MENSTRUAL CYCLE.


Women at the age of puberty normally experience menstrual cycles, which is a normal physiological body phenomenon due to signalling from hormones released by the body.

However at times there may be disorders that occur related to the menstrual cycle. Some of them include;
1.      Dysmenorrhea.
This is characterized by painful cramping with onset on the first days of menstruation. It can however be primary or secondary due to endometriosis, uterine polyps of or fibroids.
The pain may sometimes radiate to the back and thighs. Nausea and diarrhoea can occur. Pain begins 12 hours before menses and increase in severity for up to 24 hours.
NSAIDs are mainly given especially propionic acids, cox-2 inhibitors and indole acetic acids.

3.      Polycystic ovarian syndrome.
The common clinical signs of this include acne, hirsutism, polysistic ovaries. It is the most common cause of annovulatory infertility. Use of combined oral contraceptives can help relieve the symptoms as prescribed by a doctor.
4.      Endometriosis.
This is when there is presence of endometrial tissue occurring outside the uterus.
It results in infertility, pain and dyspareunia.
